TV report: The trio of world famous doctors performed original technique for congenital ventricular septal defect treatment
Professors Osiev and Onorato invented a non-standard interventional technique for closing a ventricular septal defect without arterial access.
We used femoral vein access. The catheter crossed the right atrium, PFO, left atrium, left ventricle, and back to the right ventricle and pulmonary artery. Then, we captured it in a pulmonary artery, withdrew the free end of the guidewire from the femoral vein, and delivered the VSD occluder delivery system from that side to the left ventricle.
The technique is called Osiev & Onorato “O2 = Oxygen technique”.
